In celebration of Juneteenth and Black Music Month, I had the great privilege of an invitation to curate a roundtable discussion for the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD) discussing the relationship of Black Dance and Black Music to each other and their connection to Resistance, Revolution, Resilience and Remembrance. Mad props to Tiffany Pittman for conjuring this concept. For more on IABD and the panelists, which include Moncel Durden, Tonya Marie Amos, Melanie George, Pat Taylor and the indomitable Cleo Parker Robinson, please click HERE. And don’t stop there: IABD needs all the help we can get, so hop around that website and then share, share, share.

Juneteenth was miraculous also because of this moment at City Hal, when I was able to stand in for Tiffany Rea-Fisher, one of the event organizers and fellow IABD Next Generation Leadership Committee members. Special thanks to Brandon Kazen-Maddox (@bkazenmaddox IG), the ASL interpreter on my left, whose brilliant work is particularly appopriate because of how the movement aspects of his job augmented the artist/dancer messages Tiffany and I represented. Thank you Brandon!
